The Welfare Studies Program has Practicum 1 (Micro-Mezzo) and Practicum 2 (Macro) courses are an important part of learning social work interventions. In Practicum 1, the focus is on interventions at the micro and mezzo levels. The micro level refers to addressing individual or family issues, where students will learn counseling skills, communication, and direct interaction with clients. Meanwhile, the mezzo level focuses on small group or community interventions, which involve group work, meeting facilitation, as well as community empowerment on a limited scale.
Next, Practicum 2 moves on to macro-level interventions, which involve changing social systems, organizations, and public policies. At this level, students will be trained to develop intervention strategies that relate to change on a broader scale, such as policy advocacy, organizational management, and the development of social programs that focus on the interests of society as a whole. Thus, through these two courses, students are prepared to face intervention challenges at various levels, ranging from individuals to more complex social system changes.
