Sidoarjo, June 23, 2022 – UMM Social Welfare Program Visits the Social Welfare Service Center (PMKS) in Sidoarjo
This activity aimed to help students learn and understand the application of professional ethics practiced by social workers at the PMKS Center in Sidoarjo. More than 85 students from the Social Welfare Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang participated in the visit.
The students were welcomed by Fivtian Windarta, SH, MM, Head of the PRS PMKS Center Sidoarjo, along with his team. The gathering started at 9:00 AM in the meeting hall with a brief introduction about the PMKS Center.
Eko Rizqi Purwo, MSW, a supervising lecturer for the Professional Ethics course, expressed his hopes for the benefit of the visit:
"This field lecture aims to enable students to apply what they have learned in the Professional Ethics course," he stated.
He also added, "Thank you to the PMKS Center for warmly welcoming our students for this field activity."
The event continued with the presentation of souvenirs as a token of appreciation and remembrance to the PMKS Center. Afterward, the students were guided through a discussion on the professional ethics applied by the institution, followed by a tour of the facilities, accompanied by social workers from PMKS Sidoarjo.
Additionally, the students had the opportunity to observe the social rehabilitation and skill development programs provided to clients at the center. They witnessed activities such as skills training, psychosocial support, and food assistance programs.
This field lecture not only provided practical insights into the professional ethics of social work but also enhanced students' communication, observation, and empathy skills. Many students felt inspired by the dedication and spirit of the PMKS staff in assisting those in need.
"This activity was enjoyable and enriched our understanding of social work ethics. We had the chance to interact with clients, sing together, and play games. From this field study, we gained invaluable experience and learned about the challenges faced by the institution and how they are addressed," said Elsa, one of the Social Welfare students.
