Thursday, July 11, 2024, the Social Welfare Study Program of Muhammadiyah University of Malang held a closing ceremony and also an internship results seminar for students at the Center of Excellence. The event was held in the FISIP Hall GKB 1 6th floor, and was attended by lecturers, students, and Dudi partners from the East Java Institute for Community and Development Studies (LPKP).
The event began with remarks from the Head of the Social Welfare Study Program, Dr. Fauzik Lendriyono, M.Si, who expressed his appreciation to students who have undergone this CoE internship program. “The preparation of this CoE is not easy considering that in Social Welfare itself this is the first batch of CoE, with the CoE internship program it is hoped that students can benefit and implement the knowledge they have learned in lectures.” said Dr. Fauzik Lendriyono, M.Si,
During the internship program, students engaged in various social projects aimed at improving community welfare. They collaborated with social institutions to address issues such as the empowerment of domestic workers, child-friendly villages, and the withdrawal of child labor. The internship locations were in the villages of Ngijo, Gadang, Pandanmulyo, and Selorejo.
Prof. Dr. Muslimin Machmud, M.Si, Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, stated that the CoE internship program represents a new initiative in student development. “The uniqueness of this CoE program lies not only in its design by the department but also in the involvement of partners in planning the activities carried out by the students in each setting. Thus, when students are on the field, they not only understand the concepts but also know how to provide solutions to clients,” the Dean explained.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Damat, MP., IPM, head of the CoE program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, emphasized that the CoE program enables students to graduate on time and be work-ready. “The PIC and department heads have already given explanations, and the expectation is that students complete their final reports right after the internship. In the future, the Social Welfare program will be entrusted with the task of establishing a nursing home,” he added.
The closing event of the program is expected to serve as a bridge for students to enter the workforce and strengthen their networks in the social welfare sector. With the experience they have gained, students are expected to become agents of change capable of addressing social challenges in society. After the closing ceremony, students will conduct internship result seminars with setting supervisors from the LPKP and the examiners' panel.
