Signing of MOU with PT Akademi Indonesia Maju and Release of Social Welfare Study Program Student Internships Opens Doors to Practical Experience

On Monday, May 20, 2024, the Social Welfare Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang held a send-off ceremony for students participating in the department’s internship program. The internship will run from May 20 to July 20, 2024. The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Social Welfare faculty members, representatives from PT Akademi Indonesia Maju, and students who will take part in the internship.  

This internship program is a new initiative in the Social Welfare curriculum, providing students with the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world situations. The internship placements are not limited to Malang City but also extend beyond Java Island.  

In his speech, the Head of the Social Welfare Program, Dr. Fauzik Lendriyono, M.Si., highlighted that over 100 students are participating in the program. “There are approximately 104 students participating in internships at various institutions such as women’s and children’s protection agencies, probation services (Bapas), women’s crisis centers, police departments, and more. Some are interning not only in Malang City but also in other locations, including West Java and Mataram,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Dean of FISIP UMM, Dr. Muslimin Machmud, M.Si., in his speech, advised students to uphold the good name of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. “This half-semester of coursework followed by a half-semester of internship is the first time such a program has been implemented in FISIP by the Social Welfare Department. Therefore, I urge all students to maintain good ethics and honor the name of UMM throughout their internship,” he stated.

In addition to the send-off ceremony, the event also included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PT Akademi Indonesia Maju. This company specializes in public consulting, providing objective advice and solutions as a third party to their clients.

Representing PT Akademi Indonesia Maju, Mr. Erik Setiawan encouraged students to make the most of their internship experience. “Internships not only help expand your network but also serve as an opportunity to showcase your abilities and present innovative ideas to your host organizations. It will also provide valuable experience for you after graduation,” he said.

The event began with a speech from the Head of the Social Welfare Department, followed by the symbolic pinning ceremony for students, and concluded with the signing of the MOU between the Social Welfare Department and PT Akademi Indonesia Maju.
