On Sunday, June 2, 2024, Group 3 of the COE Social Welfare Student Internship held a disaster emergency response socialization event at the A.R. Fachrudin Mosque field, UMM.

The Center of Excellence (CoE) Internship program by Social Welfare students provides a platform for students to apply their skills in real-life situations. Various activities are designed to benefit both partners and the community, promoting the development and application of human resources based on research outcomes and collaboration with the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).

The main program organized by Group 3 during the internship period was the Disaster Emergency Response Socialization. The beneficiaries of this program were 19 members of the Malang Raya Work Revolution Movement Association (Anggrek Maya).

Anggrek Maya is an organization of domestic workers (PRT) based in Malang City and surrounding regencies. The organization serves as a platform for its members to gain knowledge, share experiences, and improve their skills to strengthen their potential, especially in enhancing their capacity at work.

The event was also attended by representatives from the Institute for Community and Development Studies (LPKP) of East Java, a professional partner of the Social Welfare program, and Mr. Eko Rizqi Purwo Widodo, MSW, the supervisor for COE Social Welfare student interns.

The disaster emergency response socialization event was held in collaboration with a Student Activity Unit (UKM) called Maharesigana. Maharesigana UMM is an organization focused on disaster management (before, during, and after disasters). A representative from Maharesigana explained, “There is a need for intensive socialization regarding small actions frequently performed at home that can have significant impacts, such as what to do during an earthquake, how to extinguish small fires, handle leaking LPG gas, and other issues related to potential losses if not addressed early, especially for domestic workers whose jobs are primarily carried out in or around the house.”

Mr. Rikawanto, a representative of the LPKP East Java Institute, added, “This event is very beneficial, especially for domestic workers. They were enthusiastic and eager to participate in the activity. We at LPKP East Java are committed to supporting the Social Welfare COE student interns until they complete their program.”

It is hoped that Anggrek Maya members will not only gain knowledge in disaster emergency response but also develop other skills and expertise to enhance their self-capacity. Mr. Eko Rizqi Purwo Widodo, MSW, the supervisor of the Social Welfare COE Internship, expressed his appreciation for the event. He emphasized that practical activities like this are crucial efforts by UMM Social Welfare students to meet community needs. Through this initiative, the program aims to provide benefits and empower participants, enabling them to achieve higher capacity and quality.
